Bruce Edwards

Cheshire ' Bruce Edwards, 83, of Cheshire passed away Saturday January 17, 2009 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut Bradley Memorial Campus. He was the husband of Dorothy (Gladwin) Edwards.

Mr. Edwards was born May 24, 1925 in Manchester, NH the son of the late John R. and Bernice (Hamer) Edwards. He graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, Class of 1942 and was a U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduate. He served in the Coast Guard for 20 years, where he obtained the rank of Lt. Commander. After his career in the Coast Guard, Mr. Edwards was employed as a Systems Analyst for Southern New England Telephone for 27 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of St. Peter Episcopal Church; the Cheshire Cats Square Dance Club and the Telephone Pioneers.

Besides his wife of 58 years, Mr. Edwards is survived by his sons Richard G. Edwards and his wife Cathy of Brookfield, and Bruce E. Edwards of Wolcott; a daughter Janet Alison Edwards of Cheshire; and two grandchildren Ian and Louisa Edwards.

Arrangements ' A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 59 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St, Cheshire. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
