Bernard "Bernie" M. DiDomizio, 72, passed away November 25, 2009 at home after a brave battle with cancer.
Bernard was born October 15, 1937 and was the son of the late Anthony "Grumpy" and Olivine "Tulip" (Sullivan) DiDomizio.
Bernie worked as a mechanic for many years as well as Century Brass, Sikorsky, and The Lewis Tree Service. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Germany. He loved to cook, especially spaghetti sauce and his famous hot relish. He enjoyed singing Karaoke with many of his friends. He was also a civil war buff and instrumental in the collecting and sending of care packages to our troops in Iraq.
The family of Bernard would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Kert Sabbath and the staff at The Harold Leever Cancer Center for the care and compassion they showed Bernard.
Bernard is survived by a son Dean A. DiDomizio of Waterbury, three daughters Melanie and her husband Chris Tice of Oakville, Illona FitzGerald and her husband Michael Bernacki of Brookfield, Kari and her husband John DiBiaso of Naugatuck, two brothers Thomas and his wife Joanne DiDomizio of Cheshire, Teddy and his wife Karen DiDomizio, a sister Holly and her husband Matthew Kosky of Bethlehem, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his companion Shirley Chouinard. Bernard was predeceased by a son Mitchell T. Vitali, and a brother Richard DiDomizio.
Arrangements- A graveside service for Bernard will be held Saturday December 12, 2009 with full Military Honors at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Road, Waterbury, CT 06705 at 11 A.M Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 29, 2009 at The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, Waterbury, CT 06710 from to 2 to 5 P.M Donations in Bernard's name may be made to The Harold Leever Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
