NAUGATUCK Mrs. Barbara G. (Cantrell) Tarantino, 85, of Naugatuck, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of Anthony A. 'Bucky' Tarantino who passed away in 2000 after 50 years of marriage.
Mrs. Tarantino was born in Norwalk on Aug. 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Cantrell, and had been a Naugatuck resident for 29 years, moving here from Stamford. She was a graduate of Darien High School and had been employed as a legal secretary prior to her marriage. She enjoyed duckpin bowling, roller skating and ice skating in her younger days, and loved to garden and sew.
She leaves three sons, Richard A. Tarantino of Newtown, William D. Tarantino of Naugatuck and Anthony G. Tarantino of Oxford; three daughters, Sharon E. Perrottelli of Norwalk, Barbara L. Kelly of Naugatuck and Vanessa A. Barcello of Sinking Spring, Pa.; three brothers, Bruce Cantrell of Manchester, Kenneth Cantrell of Wilton, Maine, and LaVern Cantrell of West Redding; one sister, Avor Hohenshilt of Kalispell, Mont.; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sisters, Robert Cantrell, Elaine Vittun, Dorothy Wasilko and Virginia Campbell.
Friends and family may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., on Monday, April 14, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. A private family service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday followed by burial in Grove Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.
