Barbara Madden

Barbara Madden of Cheshire, CT peacefully passed away in the early morning of May 9, 2017. She was born May 28, 1925 at her home in Beacon Falls, CT. She was the daughter of the late John A. Mc Geever Sr. and Edith Bronson Mc Geever. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, George Francis Madden, and her three siblings, John A. Mc Geever, Martha Bronson Reilly and Dorothy Mayer Thurston.

Barbara was a creative intelligent woman who enjoyed spending time with her children, singing and creating art. She had been an active member of the Naugatuck Congregational Church until moving to Cheshire in 2011, and became an associate member of the Spring Glen Church in Hamden.

Barbara attended the University of Vermont, The New School of Social Research in NYC, and finished her studies at Southern Connecticut State College receiving her BA and MA in Art Education. She taught art in the Naugatuck Public School system for 27 years retiring in 1990 and continued to pursue her career as a pastel artist.

Barbara’s artwork has been shown in museums, galleries, and other art venues throughout New England and New York. She has been involved with many art associations including Kent Art Association, SCAN of Newtown, Connecticut Pastel Association, The Catherine Lorillard Wolf Art Club, and the Salma Gundi Art Club, to name a few. Barbara has won numerous awards and recognition for her beautiful work.

Barbara is survived by her four children, Ede-Jo Madden of Waterbury, Katiellen Madden and her husband Vincent Palazzolo of High Falls, NY, Geody Madden and his wife Vikki McFadden of Taos, NM, and Douglas Madden of Naugatuck, one granddaughter, Jessica Ziegler and husband Jeff Nemetsky of West Orange NJ, seven step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude and deep appreciation to Regina Anane of Home Instead Senior Care, the Hartford Hospital Healthcare Hospice Care Team and to the staff of Elim Park Place for their support and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Naugatuck Congregational Church 9 Division St. Naugatuck, CT 06770, or to Spring Glen Congregational Church 1825 Whitney Ave. Hamden, CT 06517.

Arrangements – Funeral services for Mrs. Madden will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Spring Glen Congregational Church 1825 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
