SOUTHBURY- Barbara Hyner, 96, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her residence. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob “Jack” Hyner who passed away in 2012 after 68 years of marriage.
Mrs. Hyner was born June 21, 1919 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Samuel and Minnie Rosenzweig.
She graduated from Crosby High School in 1936, and from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1938 and worked at the hospital for a number of years. Forever the nurse, she never lost that gentle compassion for those in need.
Barbara was a quiet, generous woman who, with Jack’s involvement, gave to many charities and often individuals. According to their wishes, this was usually done anonymously.
She had a passion for gardening. For as many years as she was able, she created flower gardens that inspired all who saw them. Barbara loved to travel and over the years with Jack saw many beautiful parts of this country and the world.
Barbara also loved nature and had a reverence for all living things, a passion that was passed on to her family. Together with Jack, they were active in supporting wildlife and land conservation efforts in Connecticut, Sanibel, FL, and Arizona. Above all else she loved her family.
Barbara is survived by her two sons Rob and his wife Ellen Hyner of Avon, and Mark and his wife Marilyn Hyner of Bluffton, SC; four grandchildren: Melissa Hyner Gugliotti, Matthew Hyner and his fiancée, Nicole Falls, Samantha and her husband Sopo Lin, Alex Hyner, and her adopted granddaughter, Susan Thibeault; and one great grandchild, Nolan Lin.
Arrangements- A private graveside service for Mrs. Hyner will be held at Star Lodge Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 is assisting with the arrangements.
