MERIDEN - Barbara Louise McDonald Haveran, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday June 10, 2012 at home surrounded by family.
Barbara was born May 13, 1922 in East Hartford, CT to the late John and Anna McDonald. She was predeceased by her sister Arline Martin and brother Jack McDonald. She graduated from East Hartford High School, class of 1940 and then proudly served as a U.S. Marine Corporal in the Quartermaster Supply Unit during WWII. While raising her children she was active in the Hartford Women's Club, Junior Achievement and other volunteer organizations. After 20+ years of service, she retired as an executive secretary from Waterbury Farrell in Cheshire, CT. She resided in Old Lyme, CT and Marco Island, FL where she volunteered in a reading program for grammar school children.
Barbara was an exceptional mother to Ellen Harris (Richard), Laurie Howell and Sally Haveran; grandmother to Kate Naughton (Robert), Perry Harris, David Howell and Megan Howell; great-grandmother to Willem, Walker and Charlotte Naughton. She also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.
Arrangements - Friends and family may join in a gathering to celebrate her life at Alderson Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St., Cheshire, CT on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 1579 Straits Turnpike, Middlebury, CT 06762 or the Hepatitis C Association www.hepcassoc.org/donation.
