Barbara A. Gorman

CHESHIRE- Barbara A. Gorman, 91, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. She was the wife of John W. Gorman, Jr.

Mrs. Gorman was born November 6, 1933, in Derby, daughter of the late Philip J. and Mary E. (Walsh) Comerford. She was a 1951 graduate (and head cheerleader) of Derby High School and a 1953 graduate of Quinnipiac University. Prior to her marriage she was employed by the S.P. Church Company of Seymour, Connecticut, and the New York/New Haven/Hartford Railroad as an administrative assistant. In 1956 she married USAF Lt. John W. Gorman Jr., who she had known since first grade, and her life adventure really began. From being a newlywed at their first airbase in San Angelo, Texas to her husband’s final assignment at Pease Airbase in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where her first daughter Bobbi was born, she embraced the hectic life of a military wife. In 1959 she and her expanding family returned to Derby to be near her recently widowed mother where her second daughter, Kathi, and a son, John, were born. From 1967 to 1974 she relocated numerous times with her family to Wycoff, New Jersey, Kennett, Missouri and Red Oak, Iowa before finally settling in Cheshire 50 years ago. Along the way she learned to love knitting, golf, baking, winters at Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, Florida, and travelling the world with her special group of close friends but the thing she will be remembered most for is providing a loving, nurturing home for her family and for that she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband of 68 years, Mrs. Gorman leaves behind her son, John, and his wife, Mary, of Groveland, Massachusetts and her daughters, Kathi Glass, and her husband Bill, and Bobbi Marinaro of Cheshire. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Eric (Hilary) Marinaro of Southington, Kalin (Paul) Coutinho of Cheshire, Thomas Marinaro of Cheshire, Alyssa (Graig) Daley of Cheshire, Margaret (Tim) Lagarce of Ipswich, Massachusetts, and Jack (Grace) Gorman of West Newbury, Massachusetts. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Ryan, Brooke, Emmy, Mack, Finley, Grant, Rory, and Lainey. In addition, she leaves a brother-in-law Robert (Linda) Gorman of Overland Park, Kansas.
