CHESHIRE - Barbara Lillis Ash passed peacefully on Saturday April 16, 2016 at Elim Park Place. Born May 16, 1930 in Chester Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Lucy and Warren Nye and wife of the late Albert W. Ash Jr. Barbara had two older twin sisters Marcia and Susan, and they enjoyed spending their summers at their grandparents’ summer home on Deer Isle, ME, creating many fond memories. She attended Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio and graduated with a degree in Biology. After college she accepted a position with the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT, where she met her loving husband of 60 years Albert W. Ash Jr. They were married February 19, 1955, in Hartford, CT. Barbara is survived by four children: Albert Warren (1956), Philip Dana (1958), Stephen Gregory (1959), and Catherine Louise (Charette) (1961). She is also survived by six grandchildren. Barbara took great pride in being a stay at home wife and mother, raising her children and delighting everyone with her wonderful cooking and baking expertise. She passed on numerous generational family favorite recipes that will be forever remembered and made time and time again. Barbara enjoyed many hobbies over the years including maintaining her flower beds, collecting buttons, and volunteering at her church, Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, CT. She also was an avid bell collector and member of the American Bell Association, New England Chapter, with a collection of hundreds of bells from all over the world. In retirement, Albert and Barbara spent many years hiking Connecticut trails and visiting State Parks. In 2010, they moved from Bloomfield, CT, to Elim Park in Cheshire, CT. A memorial service will be held a Nelson Hall, Elim Park on May 7, 2016 at 1;30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
