Emblem

Naugatuck - Loving husband, father, and friend, Arthur C. Hensel, Jr., at age 76 went home to Jesus on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

Affectionately known by many as, "Poppie", he will be greatly missed. Born on April 27, 1948, in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Arthur and Irene (Shoemaker) Hensel. The devoted husband of Dolores (Clark) Hensel for 55 years. He grew up in Milford and attended Jonathan Law High School, where he met the love of his life. He continued his education at Norwalk Technical College and Post College, earning degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Management.

He proudly and loyally served his country in the United States Navy for 21 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer, E7. He was recognized as both Sailor of the Month and Sailor of the Year during his service. Art was a patriotic American who loved to travel but took pride in his homeland.

Loyalty is the best character trait to describe Art. No matter what he poured himself into, he did so with his whole self. For 30 plus years, he worked at Chromalloy of CT as their Director of Quality Control.

Poppie's love for his family might be one of the first things you would notice about him. From the stands to the sidelines, he was always there to encourage and support his own kids with their endeavors and his grands with theirs. From Cub Scout/Webelos Leader to Peter J. Foley baseball coach, his passion for sports never waned. Especially, his love for UCONN women's basketball and the only team in town, the New York Yankees. As a "southpaw" golfer, he enjoyed playing with his buddies. And, as an active member of the Prospect Senior Center, he taught many how to play cards while presiding over a setback league.

There was not much Poppie could not do - from plumbing to electrical, from scrapped knees to broken hearts, he was always willing to give it a try to make things better.

Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his son Arthur C. Hensel; his daughter, Kimberly and her husband Jason Strickland; his sister Faye Wasleski; his grandchildren Kyle, Alison, Isabella, Sophia, Abigail, and Benjamin. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his granddaughter, Vivian Hope.
