Josephine “Lonny” Arruda, 84, the widow of Alfred Arruda, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury.
Lonny was born in Waterbury on November 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Assinado) Gucciardi. She was a retiree of the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. in Naugatuck. She was a lifelong Prospect resident and a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Lonny had a passion for baking cookies.
Lonny is survived by her son, Alfred Arruda of Waterbury; her granddaughter, Amanda Rincon of Florida; her grandson, Manny Arruda and his wife Nicole of Waterbury; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lonny is also survived by her sisters, Theresa Mastronunzio of Cheshire and Mary Scaviola of Southbury; her brothers, Sammy Gucciardi of Waterbury and Leo Gucciardi of Florida. Lonny was predeceased by her brother, Frankie Gucciardi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect, CT 06712. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers, to honor Lonny’s memory, contributions may be made to the Lutheran Home of Southbury, 990 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488.
