GLASTONBURY- Arnold A. Shiller, 97, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at The Hearth at Glastonbury. He was predeceased by his beloved wife , Dorothy “Dottie” Shiller on February 16, 2021 after more than 66 years of marriage.
Mr. Shiller was born March 9, 1924 in Waterbury, son of the late Hyman and Rebecca (Bertha) (Kaufman) Shiller. He was the brother of the late Ethel (Shiller)Grabow, and the late Sydney Shiller.
Mr. Shiller was a a decorated Prisoner of War proudly serving in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Arnold worked as a Product Engineer at the former Scovill Manufacturing Company and Century Brass Company prior to his retirement.
Mr. Shiller was a dedicated husband and father. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family. His greatest treasures were his "good kids". He loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He was kind and generous, and never hesitated if there was a way he could help someone out. Not a person who knew him could help but love and respect him.
Arnold is survived by daughters (Marla) Cindy Shiller of Manchester, Holly Tursky and her husband David of Framingham, MA; sons Allan Shiller and his wife Christine of Glastonbury, and David Shiller and his wife Stacey of Haddonfield, NJ; grandchildren Daniel and Bonnie Tursky, Ryan and Rebecca Shiller, Jacob Shiller and great granddaughter Ryleigh Shiller.
A graveside service with full military honors for Mr. Shiller will be held 11 A.M, Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, 234 Stillson Road. Waterbury, . Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Burial will follow after the service. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 469 Chase Ave, 06704, is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to B’nai Shalom Synagogue, 135 Roseland Ave, Waterbury, CT 06710, or the American Heart Association.
