Antonio Augusto Da Fonseca Coelho

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Antonio Augusto Da Fonseca Coelho, who left us peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 6, 1941, in Valega, Ovar, Portugal, the cherished son of Albertino Coelho and Maria Espirito Santo Fonseca Guerra. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Manuel Maria Coelho, and Albertino Coelho.

Antonio is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years (our mother), Maria Aline Guedes Da Costa, who stood by his side since day one. Their unwavering love and partnership were a testament to their commitment to one another. Antonio often worried about her well-being, but she would have it no other way; she was dedicated to him and their family through all of life's challenges. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.

Antonio also leaves behind his two adoring children, Antonio Coelho Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Ana Coelho; his daughter, Carla Fonseca Baxter, along with his son-in-law, Kenneth Baxter. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Ryan Anthony Coelho, Abigail Rose Baxter, and Sophia Daniela Coelho. Antonio's family also includes a loving network of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Antonio was a true provider, exemplifying what it means to be a great husband, father, and grandfather. His love was always evident through his actions, ensuring that his family was cared for above all else. He was a man of humility who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, especially his family. His passion for life extended to his beloved vegetable garden, where he spent countless hours working. He also created a special bond with his cherished cats and dogs.

Life was never easy for Antonio. He faced unimaginable loss, losing his mother at the tender age of 15 and his father in his 20s. At just 15 years old, he began working to provide for his family, including his brothers, his aunt, and his father, who was still alive. Despite the hardships, his resilience shone through as he walked miles to support those he loved. In 1988, he bravely emigrated to the United States, taking on cleaning jobs and eventually working in factories to support his own family.

Antonio's journey was marked by incredible challenges. In 1994, he faced a life-threatening open heart aortic valve replacement surgery, where he flatlined and endured a massive stroke. The prognosis was grim, and we were told he might never walk or talk again. However, he demonstrated an unyielding spirit, making a miraculous 100% recovery. He continued to defy the odds through subsequent health struggles, including lung infections, strokes, dementia, Parkinson's, kidney surgeries, and brain bleeds. He fought valiantly, always with the desire to be at home with his family.

Our father was our hero, embodying the true definition of perseverance and faith. He taught us that giving up is never an option and that God knows when it is time to call us home. Through his life, he instilled in us the belief that family is always there for one another, and that love is best expressed through actions rather than material possessions.

In his humble life, Antonio cherished moments over things, valuing the laughter, love, and stories shared with family. As we say goodbye to our beloved father, we celebrate the legacy of love and resilience he leaves behind. He will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light and an enduring inspiration.

Rest in peace, Dad. Mom will be ok we will make sure of that. Your spirit will live on in the love you have given us all.

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial and a period of visitation will be announced at a later date.
