Anthony G. Smaldone

Anthony (Tony) Gerard Smaldone, age 76, of Cheshire, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, after a courageous battle with Leukemia, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Jennifer (Johnson) Smaldone for over 44 years. Anthony was born on December 22, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Anthony G. and Serafina (Balestrieri) Smaldone. 

Tony was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from St. Augustine High School. He received a full scholarship to City College in New York, graduating in 1968, and later earned his MBA from Columbia University. Anthony served his country with honor as an Officer in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, returning home to work for various companies as an auditor, including CBS, where he met his wife-to-be, Jennifer. Anthony and Jennifer relocated to London before returning to the States to settle and start a family in Cheshire over 37 years ago. Most recently, before his retirement in 2018, Tony was the CFO for Calcagni Associates. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by his family and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Jennifer, he is survived by his loving children, Nick Smaldone and his fiancée, Anna Galazka of Trumbull; and Katie Smaldone of New Haven. Tony is also survived by his grandson, Declan Anthony Smaldone; as well as his brother, Paul Smaldone and his husband, John Thompson of Brooklyn.

Tony’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital as well as the Franciscan Homecare and Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided Tony during his illness.

Friends may greet Tony’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM. His Funeral Service will be held during the visitation at 6PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
