TORRINGTON- Anna M. Yarmala, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Valerie Manor Nursing Home in Torrington. She was the widow of Joseph Yarmala.
She was born April 2, 1916, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Andreskevich) Pillis, and was a longtime resident of Middlebury before returning to Waterbury.
Anna was a communicant of St. Peter and Paul's Church in Waterbury, was an avid fan of UConn women's basketball, and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Anna is survived by a son, Joseph, and his wife, Cynthia Yarmala of Bowdoinham, ME; a daughter, Joanne, and her husband, Ronald Ottman of Thomaston; a sister, Helen Stanley; a brother, Raymond Pillis; six grandchildren, Jennifer Ottman, Rachel Ottman, Dannielle Thomas, Angella Hunt, Caroline Yarmala, and Tevis Yarmala; and three great-grandchildren, Diana Thomas, Phillip Thomas, and Ellora Hunt. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Bernard Pillis.
Arrangements- A Funeral Mass for Anna will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012, at St. Peter and Paul's Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, 06705 at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 is in charge of the arrangements. Donations in Anna's name may be made to the Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
