Ann P. DeMarco

CHESHIRE - Ann P. (Nicholas) DeMarco, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Ann was born April 17, 1941 in Penarth, Wales, UK, the daughter of the late David Kenneth and Hilda Marie (Phillips) Nicholas.

Having lived in America since 1963, and becoming a citizen, Ann returned to Great Britain in 1994 to be a caregiver for her mother. After the death of her mother, Ann returned to the U.S. where she made her home with her only daughter. Affectionately known as “Grandma Ann”, she loved her in-law apartment, referring to it as “The Sanctuary”. She enjoyed her life watching her grandchildren grow and over the years hung various signs on her door such as “Grandma Ann’s Diner” with winter and summer hours. As her health deteriorated, Ann never removed the Diner sign just changed it to read “Self-Serve Only”.

Ann was up to date on all current events, especially politics and was quick to let her family know the daily scoop. She would enter into never ending political debates with her grandson Ryan and would spoil her granddaughter Emma in every imaginable way. During her final years she enjoyed homemade cappuccinos with her daughter Danielle, snuggling with her dog Hollister, while watching the birds in the back yard.

Throughout her years Ann had various medical issues which brought her to Yale New Haven Hospital. She would often brag about how she was receiving superior medical care and was with the best doctors in the country. Her family would like to thank all of those who were involved with her care both in and out of the hospital setting.

Based on Ann’s caring demeanor for others and her unselfish acts of caring for her family, the Ann P. DeMarco Award is being established by the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home. This award will be distributed quarterly to a member of the health care field based on nominations from friends, family and co-workers.

Ann is survived by her daughter Danielle Ford and her husband Dan of Cheshire; her grandchildren Ryan and Emma Ford; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Nicholas; her dearest friend Liz Parry; her first cousins Sara Hardy, who Ann was exceptionally close to growing up, Peter Morgan and Paula Heyhoe; an abundant amount of loving nieces, nephews and cousins, all of which she adored; as well as her faithful companion Hollister. Besides her parents, Ann is predeceased by her brother Michael.

Arrangements – Per Ann’s request, a private family service will take in Martha’s Vineyard over the summer. There are no calling hours. As one of her favorite places to spend time memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Cheshire Public Library, 104 Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
