Ann Haywood Evonciw, age 97, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at her home. She was the devoted wife of the late Edward Evonciw. Ann was born on May 15, 1918 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Daniel and Winifred (Smith) Haywood, and was a lifelong Waterbury resident.
Family meant the world to Ann, and although she and Ed did not have children of their own, they adored their nieces and nephews as if they were their own. She enjoyed rides out to New Milford for hamburgers with the kids in whatever stunning automobile she was driving at the time, and she will be remembered for her talent in the kitchen as a gourmet cook. In their younger years, Ann and Ed spent time at their home in Kennebunkport, ME; Ann absolutely loved Maine. Ed was a private pilot, so Ann took to the skies with him often.
She is the beloved aunt of Van and Terry (Jane) Nabb of Madisonville, KY; William and Fran Haywood of Naugatuck; Daniel and Barbara Haywood of Bossier, LA and Cindy and Jim Hestick of Dearborn, MI. She was predeceased by her siblings; Jane and Joseph Petrocelli, Daniel and Naomi Haywood and Murlyn and Bill Dallywater, and her nephew, Joe Petrocelli.
A Graveside Service for Ann will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11AM at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury has been entrusted with her arrangements.
