Amedeo 'Guy' Pagano

CHESHIRE - Mr. Amedeo “Guy” Pagano, 102, formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on August 5 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Angela (Stanco) Pagano, to whom he was married for 60 years.

Mr. Pagano was born on June 25, 1912, in Waterbury, son of the late Rocco and Angela Maria (Pace) Pagano. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1977, thus enjoying 37 years of retirement, most of it dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he spent many summers on Cape Cod, MA.

Amedeo served proudly in World War II as part of the 208th Coastal Artillery Anti-Aircraft Regiment. As an accomplished musician, he served as the Technical First Sergeant for that unit’s band. He spent 42 months overseas during World War II in Australia and New Guinea. Amedeo was honored in Cheshire’s Memorial Day Parade this year as Cheshire’s oldest living veteran.

He played clarinet and saxophone for many years with several bands, among them the Waterbury Fulton American Band, and was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 186. He was also accomplished on the violin and flute. For many years he gave private music lessons in Cheshire, and also taught his four children to play a musical instrument.

Amedeo is survived by two sons, David Pagano and his wife Linda of Hilton Head Island, SC; John Pagano and his wife Kristine of Cheshire; and a daughter, Anne Kennedy and her husband Mike of Cheshire. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Nancy, who was married to John Whidden of Ellington, CT. He also leaves six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Victor Pagano, and two sisters, Marie “Molly” and Marguerite Pagano, all late of Waterbury.

His life will be celebrated in a funeral mass on Saturday August 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Church 175 Main St., Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will follow the Mass and there are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
