CHESHIRE - Alice R. (Prior) Mahoney, 94, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Masonicare Healthcare Center of Wallingford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John J. Mahoney.
Alice grew up in Waterbury the daughter of the late William and Alice (Powers) Prior
and moved to Cheshire in 1960. She attended Walsh Elementary School, and graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar and Sacred Heart High School. She received her business certificate from Post Junior College when it was located on Central Avenue in Waterbury. She was a retired secretary from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections after twenty years of service. She was a member of the Cheshire Women's Club, as well as a communicant of the Church of the Epiphany in Cheshire.
She is survived by her two sons, W. Bryan Mahoney and his wife Helen of Killingworth and J. Terrence Mahoney of Plainville; her daughter, Nancy Crighton and her husband Robert of Prospect; her six grandsons, Brett Mahoney of Waterford, Jason and John Kobylarz of Madison, WI, Kevin, Bryan and Steven Crighton, of Prospect as well as four great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Jean A. Kobylarz.
The family would like to extend its deepest thanks for the excellent care and compassion provided by the nursing staff at the Masonicare Health Center.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 11:15 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, to Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterbury. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the funeral procession leaves for church. In lieu of flowers family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067, in memory of her daughter, Jean.
