NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Alice J. (Jones) Ford, 85, of Naugatuck, passed away early Sunday evening April 8, 2012 at the Paradigm Health Care of Prospect. She was the widow of Chester H. Ford who passed away in 1987 after 37 years of marriage.
Mrs. Ford was born in Naugatuck, Sept. 26, 1926 a daughter of the late Charles and Kate (French) Jones and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She was a graduate of Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1947 and was a delivery nurse at the hospital for over 25 years, prior to her retirement. Following her retirement she continued her career at Waterbury Extended Care and various other area nursing homes.
She was a member of the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, and was a member of the Waterbury Hospital Alumni Assoc. She was also a member of the former Columbian Rebekah Lodge # 35 in Naugatuck and later affiliated with Winona Rebekah Lodge # 8 in Waterbury. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and had served as organist for Trinity Episcopal Church in Seymour and as a substitute organist for the Alderson Funeral Homes.
She leaves two sons, David C. Ford and Douglas C. Ford both of Naugatuck, and 2 grandchildren, David Ford of Naugatuck and Corrin Ford of Wallingford.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday April 11, 2012 at 9 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck and proceed to the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, 9 Division St. for a service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home of Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the procession leaves for church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, 9 Division St., Naugatuck, 06770-4128.
