Maria Alho

Watertown, CT Maria Da Luz Alho, 103, widow of Joao B. Alho, died peacefully on April 28, 2023 at Trinity Terraces in Watertown surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born on February 12, 1920 in Monte Murtosa, Portugal a daughter of the late Antonio Lopes and Maria Dos Prazeres Tavares. She moved to the United States in 1944 and became a US Citizen. Maria lived in Naugatuck for most of her life and for the past 20 years she lived in Watertown. She was a faithful and founding parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Rosary Society. Maria was a former member of the Clube Uniao Portuguesa Ladies Auxiliary.

Maria is survived by her children, son and daughter in law, John and Carol Alho; daughters, Mary Semeraro and Linda Tigeleiro; grandchildren, Pasquale Semeraro, Ann Marie Semeraro, Antonio Semeraro, Timothy Tigeleiro and Steven Brownell; great grandchildren, Aaliyah Marie Tigeleiro, Isaac Semeraro, Margot Semeraro, Emily Brownell and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Maria was predeceased by her son, US Air Force Sgt. Antonio Lopes Alho, who was killed in action in Vietnam and also by her 4 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is kindly asked to please meet at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Monday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, In lieu of flowers and to honor Maria’s memory donations are requested to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
