Alfred Brooke Blackburn, age 82, of Cheshire, entered into rest on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center in Southington. He was born on November 1, 1934 in Charles Town, WV, son of the late George S. and Elizabeth Brooke Blackburn.
Brooke was a member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Choir and performed with the Cheshire Community Chorus. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale College, and later obtained Master’s degrees in Classics, Library Science, and Liberal Studies. He worked as librarian and teacher at the Father Hale High School in Raleigh, NC.
He is survived by his brother, George S. Blackburn, Jr. of Southbury and his sister, Elizabeth Tucker Blackburn of Cheshire.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11AM in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH or to the Yale University Dept. of Classics. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with his arrangements.
