CHESHIRE - Albert William Ash, Jr. passed peacefully on Saturday March 21, 2015 at Elim Park Place.
Born in Cranston Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Ross) Ash and brother to the late Barbara (Ash) Boutilier and late Robert Ash. He attended the University of Rhode Island and graduated with a degree in Biology. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, and was trained as a medical corpsman. After the service he worked at the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT, where he met his loving wife of 60 years Barbara Lillis Nye. They were married February 19, 1955, in Hartford, CT and had four children: Albert Warren (1956), Philip Dana (1958), Stephen Gregory (1959), and Catherine Louise (Charette) (1961). Six grandchildren also survive him.
Albert enjoyed a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician at a series of medical institutions including Cook Hospital and ending at the John Dempsey Medical Center working for the State of Connecticut. Albert and Barbara spent most of their years living in Bloomfield, CT and in 2010 moved to Elim Park in Cheshire, CT.
Albert was a life-long stamp collector, starting at age 7, and also enjoyed gardening and hiking. In his later years he was frequently seen walking the wood trails and other areas surrounding Elim Park and became known as “The Walker from Elim Park”.
Arrangements - A Memorial service with military honors will be held at Nelson Hall, Elim Park 150 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas TX 75231. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
