Waterbury - Albert A. Beckwith Sr., 85, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the longtime companion of Alana DeCarlo.
Mr. Beckwith was born July 8, 1939, in Derby, the son of the late Walter and Thelma (Watson) Beckwith. He was the Owner/Operator of Beckwith Equipment in New Haven. Raised in Seymour, he graduated from Bullard Havens High School, Class of 1957.
During his children’s early years, he was an umpire for the Beacon Falls Little League (now known as the Robert A. Cole Baseball League). He was a 53-year member of the Beacon Hose Company No. 1, where he was known to many as “Uncle Al”. He served as a Lieutenant and was one of the first EMTs in the state of Connecticut. In addition, he served as the fire department’s ambulance coordinator, designing the department’s first ambulance in 1979.
He loved traveling, made several cross-country trips, and explored the east coast. He was a model ship maker and produced four ships with painstakingly intricate detail. He loved the art of photography and was an avid picture taker that included early morning sunrises and evening sunsets. He was the Vice President of Beacon Falls Senior Center and enjoyed calling Thursday Bingo.
Besides his Life Partner Alana, he is survived by his children Kim Adams (husband Doug), Albert Beckwith Jr, Julie Palmiero (fiancé Joe Russo) and Sean Beckwith; his grandchildren Nathan Palmiero, Nicolas Beckwith, Danny Beckwith, Michael Beckwith, Angelina Russo, and Joie Russo; his sisters Donna Dobson and Ethel Thorpe as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Delia Contois and his brother David Beckwith.
Arrangements – A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Pines Bridge Cemetery in Beacon Falls. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
