Alan Kirk

NAUGATUCK - Alan R. Kirk, 58, of Naugatuck and formerly of New Britain, passed away Thursday June 6, 2013 at the VITAS Unit at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Alan was born February 14, 1955 in Waterbury the son of Ruth (Anderson) Kirk of Naugatuck and the late Franklin C. Kirk. He was a 1973 graduate of Naugatuck High School and obtained his bachelors degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was employed by Bell Simos Inc. of Hartford for the past 3 years where he was an Accountant, and previously had been employed by Northeast Utilities for 27 years. He was a Civil War Buff where he volunteered at several battlefields in Gettysburg, PA. , and also enjoyed camping and hiking

Besides his mother, Alan is survived by his brother Bruce and his wife Jean of Naugatuck; his sister Diane Hunt and her husband Thomas of Naugatuck; several nieces and nephews Thomas and Tracey Hunt, Ronald and Rose Hunt, Steven and Johnna Hunt, Laura and Dan Sarnelli, and Jason and Beckey Kirk; 10 great nieces and nephews; as well as his good friends Kevin and Cindy Mahan and Diane Emutis.

Alan's family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Room; the staff at VITAS at St. Mary's Hospital and Julie Branco-Sampaio for their care and concern.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday June 9, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 p.m. until the start of the service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VITAS Innovative Care, 199 Park Road., Suite 102, Middlebury, CT 06702.
