Naugatuck - Adozinda Barbosa, 98, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Glendale Center. She was the wife of the late Joao A. Barbosa, Sr.
Mrs. Barbosa was born October 22, 1925, in Monte, Murtosa, Portugal, the daughter of the late Sebastiao and Alzira (Da Cruz) Rendeiro. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident moving from Portugal in 1951. In 1955 she, along with her husband and young child relocated to Belem, Brazil; returning to Naugatuck in 1964. She was a retired employee of the Naugatuck Glass Company.
Mrs. Barbosa is survived by her children, John A. Barbosa, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Brookfield, Connecticut, Alzira Zollo Dean and her husband, Michael of Orondo, Washington, Sebastian Barbosa and his wife, Elvira of Naugatuck, Connecticut, and Roger Barbosa and his wife, Nancy of Somers, Connecticut; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Zollo Moretti, Kirsten Wells (Deryl), Matthew Barbosa (Katerina), Meghan Salonia (Peter), Laura Young (Benjamin) and Valerie Barbosa; her great-grandchildren, Ava Moretti, Gianna Moretti, Isla and Cecilia Wells, Isabelle and Abigail Salonia and Benjamin Joao Young. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Portugal. She was predeceased by her grandson, Sibby Jr. and her siblings, Maria, Manuel, David, and Rev. Sebastiao.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured her family. In her retirement years, she enjoyed spending summers in Portugal with her husband and family. Everyone knew there was aways apple cake in her Naugatuck kitchen for grandchildren and great-grandchildren to enjoy.
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caring staff and nurses at the Glendale Center for their compassionate care they provided to Adozinda for her time there.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 3 to 6 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Her funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Monday morning at 9:30 am and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Francis Church or the Club Uniao Portuguesa Scholarship Fund.
